Life insurance for 30-year-olds in Ontario

A 30-year-old in Ontario can compare dated sample premiums for $100,000 to $1,000,000 of 10, 20, 25 or 30-year term cover. The rate depends on sex, smoking status, the face amount and the term length, so one age produces a range rather than a single price. The tables below give the lowest shown sample published for each combination in our September 10, 2026 extract. Every figure is a dated sample, subject to underwriting — health, eligibility and current insurer pricing determine the final offer.

Nothing below is a quote. These are real premiums extracted from Ontario insurer advisor portals on September 10, 2026, shown so that a 30-year-old can see how the same need prices across carriers, face amounts and terms before speaking to anyone. A lower sample is not a better policy — product features, conversion options, eligibility and underwriting differ between insurers.

Frequently asked questions at 30

Is there a single price for a 30-year-old?

No. Four things move the sample: sex, smoking status, the face amount and the term length, so the same age produces a range rather than one number. The tables above show the lowest shown sample for each combination published in the current extract, and every figure is subject to underwriting.

How does smoking status change the sample at 30?

Tobacco use is rated as a separate class, so a smoker at 30 is priced above a non-smoker of the same age and sex, and both are shown above. Insurers normally verify tobacco use during underwriting rather than taking the application at face value, and understating it can void a policy. Subject to underwriting.

How much cover should a 30-year-old carry?

That depends on your debts, dependants, income and existing assets rather than on your age alone. Work the number out with the coverage calculator, then compare the face amounts above — $250,000 is a common starting point, but the right figure comes from your own obligations.

What tends to change for someone in your 30s?

A 20-year term starting at 30 runs to about age 50. Underwriting leans more on health history and any lab results the insurer requests as age rises, and a longer term costs more per month than a shorter one for the same cover. Insurers each set their own issue ages and medical requirements.

What does "lowest shown sample" mean on this page?

It is the smallest monthly premium found in our dated September 10, 2026 extract for that exact combination of age, sex, smoking status, face amount and term. It is a sample from published advisor-portal rates, not a quote, and not a promise that you will be offered it.

What ages can apply?

The publisher of this site holds an Ontario licence and compares profiles from age 18 to 75. Availability at any age depends on the individual insurer's issue limits and on the answers and medical evidence it requests. Subject to underwriting.
