Understand before you buy
It depends on your age, sex, smoking status, coverage and term. In our extract, the lowest shown Ontario sample premiums for a 25-year-old non-smoker buying $500,000 of 20-year term were about $20 a month for a female profile and about $29 for a male profile — and about $70 a month for the same coverage at 45. These are sample rates, subject to underwriting.
The number is how long your premium stays level. Term 10 usually starts at the lowest shown sample but has the steepest renewal increase; Term 20 matches the typical mortgage-and-family window; Term 30 locks a rate past retirement for young buyers. Match the term to the years you need the coverage — the tables under each term show real numbers.
