Quick answer

What is published here is dated sample premiums, not quotes. Each profile is one exact combination an insurer prices for Ontario: an age, the sex used for pricing, smoking status, a coverage amount and a term length. For every combination we show the monthly sample each insurer returned, so the same person can be read side by side across carriers instead of one insurer at a time. The samples are taken from insurer advisor portals on the date stamped on each page, and every figure is subject to underwriting, so the final premium depends on your health, eligibility and the insurer’s current pricing. The contracted insurers in this extract are Empire Life, Equitable Life of Canada, Foresters Financial, iA Financial Group, Manulife, ivari, Canada Protection Plan. An insurer missing from a profile is not a decline — it either does not publish that combination or prices it only through a separately underwritten no-medical product.

What these sample rates are

Each profile on this page is one exact combination an insurer prices: an age, the sex used for pricing, smoking status, a coverage amount and a term length. Nothing here is averaged, modelled or estimated. For every combination we publish the monthly sample premium each insurer returned, so the same profile can be read side by side across carriers.

The samples are extracted by hand from insurer advisor portals on the date stamped on each page, and they are re-extracted periodically rather than scraped continuously. Insurers reprice at their own schedule, so treat a dated sample as evidence of what was quoted then, not as today’s offer. A licensed Ontario advisor confirms current pricing and eligibility, and the insurer decides the final offer after underwriting.

Not every profile carries the same number of insurers. Where a carrier does not publish a rate for a combination, or prices it only through a separate no-medical product, that row is absent or marked rather than filled in. No-medical products use their own underwriting rules and are excluded from the standard comparisons, because including them would compare unlike things. A missing sample is not a decline and it does not mean the carrier will not offer cover.

Read a profile page from the top: the monthly sample, then the full table for that exact profile, then a comparison against the same coverage and term for applicants of the same sex and smoking status within five years of age. That last block is the useful one, because it shows whether a given profile sits high or low against its own peer group rather than against an unrelated one. All figures are dated samples, subject to underwriting.
